Despite losing in the Region 1A tournament final, 6-4, to Rappahannock last week, the Lancaster High School baseball team is returning to the Class 1 state tournament.

The Red Devils finished as a state semifinalist last year. They were scheduled to travel to Region 1B champion Rappahannock County in Washington on Tuesday, June 4, for a state quarterfinal game, while the Region 1A champion Raiders hosted Surry.
Lancaster advanced to the regional championship on Thursday, May 30, with a 2-1 extra-inning semifinal win over Northumberland on Tuesday, May 28.
Rappahannock’s bats came to life in the bottom of the third to score four runs on two doubles, three singles and a fielder’s choice to take the lead for good in the regional championship.
