Reedville will be bustling with activity July 1 in celebration of the 4th of July.
Activities will begin with the Firecracker 5K Fun Run at 8 a.m. at Festival Halle, 177 Main Street, Reedville. Participants are urged to arrive between 6:45 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. to register for the race. Registration forms are available at rfmuseum.org.
A bake sale at Bethany United Methodist Church will begin at 9:30 a.m. and other events from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m at the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum will include old-fashioned games, make-a-boat, a pie-eating contest, fire truck hose down, kids tattoos, face painting, egg toss and sack races.
The museum will be open free from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Independence Day Parade will begin at 3 p.m. on Main Street. Linda Hixon of Reedville will be honored as the grand marshal, said parade coordinator Danny Haynie.
As the celebration continues on Sunday, there will be a patriotic music concert at Festival Halle beginning at 3 p.m. The public will be able to listen to summertime classics and patriotic melodies to honor America by the Reedville Festival Chorale. Light refreshments will be served and contributions of non-perishable food for the Northern Neck Food Bank or cash donations to support renovations at Festival Halle are requested.
The celebration will come to a sparkling end with fireworks at 9:15 p.m. over Cockrell’s Creek.
