Sheriff’s Report 06-01-23

Lancaster County Sheriff Patrick McCranie this week reported charges against three individuals.

Felony

Kelly Marie Abbott, 45, of Lancaster was charged May 24 with knowingly possessing a Schedule I/II narcotic; disorderly conduct; driving while under the influence of alcohol or a narcotic drug; after having been arrested for driving under the influence, unreasonably refusing to have a sample of blood taken for a chemical test to determine the alcohol or drug content of the blood; while operating a vehicle on the highway, failing to display lighted headlights; stopping a vehicle in such a manner as to impede or render dangerous the use of the highway by others; failing to notify DMV of a change of address for the vehicle registration; failing to notify DMV of the change of address on a driver’s license; when temporarily stopped on the traveled portion of the highway, failing to flash all four turn signals to signal approaching motorists; and as a driver of a motor vehicle, failing to wear a seatbelt when such vehicle is in motion on the highway.

Misdemeanors

A Lancaster man, 20, was charged May 24 with assault and battery of a family or household member.

A Heathsville man, 51, was charged May 24 with knowingly obstructing a law enforcement officer in the performance of their duties, and appearing intoxicated in public.

May 22: Staff responded to the 100 block of James Lane for a verbal dispute, to the 3200 block of White Chapel Road for threats made to harm another, to the 200 block of Old Fairgrounds Way to assist Kilmarnock Police Department (KPD) with the theft of goods, to the 200 block of Campbell Road for a fight in progress, to the 200 block of Merry Point Road for the report of a trespasser, to the Carter Creek Bridge for the report of suspicious package near the roadway.

May 23: Staff responded to the 800 block of Lumberlost Road for suspicious activity, and to a walk-in report of a stolen 9mm Taurus semi-auto handgun that occurred at the 8600 block of Mary Ball Road.

May 24: Staff responded to Mary Ball and Harris roads for a suspicious vehicle, to the 3200 block of White Chapel Road for a domestic assault in progress, to North Main Street for a reckless driver, and to the 500 block of Gaskins Road for a burglary and larceny of items.

May 25: Staff responded to the 2900 block of Merry Point Road for an abandoned vehicle, to the 300 block of Peake Road for a reckless driver, and to the 1300 block of Irvington Road for vandalism of a vehicle.

May 26: Staff responded to the 100 block of Miskimon Road for reckless driving, to the 7700 block of River Road for vandalism of a building, to Ditchley Road to assist Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office with a fleeing felon armed with a knife, to the 13000 block of River Road for a trespasser and vandalism, to the 200 block of Irvington Road to assist KPD with a drunk and disorderly person, to the 2700 block of Weems Road for a domestic disturbance involving alcohol, to the 200 block of Irvington Road to assist KPD with a missing juvenile, to the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge for a reckless driver, and to the 5000 block of Mary Ball Road to assist Virginia State Police with a DUI traffic stop.

May 27: Staff responded to the 2000 block of Regina Road for a disorderly person, to the 800 block of Rappahannock Drive for an abandoned vehicle, to the 3200 block of White Chapel Road for violation of protective order, to the 20800 block of Mary Ball Road for grass cutting in the roadway, to the 500 block of Riverside Drive for a sudden death, and to the 9200 block of Mary Ball Road for a domestic disturbance.

May 28: Staff responded to the 1400 block of Windmill Point Road for shooting in the area, and to the 100 block of Saltwater Drive for a rekindled fire.

Staff also conducted 26 traffic stops, issued 15 summonses, assisted five motorists, recorded two deer strike accidents, handled 11 calls for traffic control, investigated three building alarms, logged an inmate transport, received 39 E911 hang up calls, and fielded five calls for animal control service.

Fire calls

White Stone Volunteer Fire Department responded to fire/smoke alarms on Rappahannock Drive and Irvington Farm Road, and to a possible structure fire on Pop Castle Road.

Kilmarnock VFD responded to a traffic crash on North Main Street and with Upper Lancaster VFD to a boathouse fire on Saltwater Drive.

Upper Lancaster VFD also responded to a brush fire on Saltwater Drive.
