Short on votes, new election district map for Northumberland has yet to be approved

HEATHSVILLE—Although no one spoke at a related public hearing, the Northumberland board of supervisors on Thursday, March 10, failed to approve a new election district map.

District 3 supervisor James Long cast the lone vote to approve the new district map. District 1 supervisor James Brann, District 2 supervisor Richard Haynie, District 4 supervisor Thomas Tomlin and District 5 supervisor Ronald Jett all voted against.

“I don’t see why we had a committee then. They worked hard to make sure it was as fair as they could come up with,” Long said.
