St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 6807 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, will celebrate its annual Bluegrass Mass at 9 a.m. Sunday, August 26, at the historic church.
This casual, family-friendly service of Holy Eucharist will feature music from American folk, gospel and bluegrass traditions. The music will be led by Richmond musicians Jonathan and Antonia Vassar. The Vassar Family Singers introduced the Bluegrass Mass tradition at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Richmond, and its popularity has led them to take it to numerous churches in the region.
“We look forward to the Vassar Family returning to St. Stephen’s every year,” said St. Stephen’s Rector Lucia Lloyd. “We invite everyone to a unique worship experience with old-time, bluegrass gospel music performed during a laid-back Episcopal mass.”
