When I first came to the Northern Neck (NNK) a couple of decades ago, we often heard the area was called “the Land of Pleasant Living.”
This fond moniker was first recorded in 1608 by Capt. John Smith, the English explorer who mapped this beautiful land. As you enter the little village, there’s a large sign advising you as to what to expect in these parts. It reads “Welcome to Fleeton est. 1903…pop. 77 people, 13 dogs & several blue crabs.”
