Art reception

A First Friday reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 2, at the Rappahannock Art League Studio Gallery, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock. The Patron’s Gala Art Show will be featured. Guests may meet some of the exhibiting artists and enjoy light refreshments.

Tickets for the June 25 Patron’s Gala are $100 each. Every ticket holder will take part in a drawing and will have the opportunity to choose a valuable work of art from the show. Tickets may be purchased at the gallery.

Shoreline landscaping

The Northern Neck Master Gardeners  (NNMG) will present “Shoreline Landscaping: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” at 2 p.m. Friday, June 2, at Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock. 

Attendees will receive handouts, including plant lists and there will be live plant specimens on display. Members of the NNMG shoreline evaluation team will respond to individual questions after the program.

Viewpoints

Author Selden Richardson will speak at 11 a.m. Monday, June 5, in the Chesapeake Center Auditorium at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury (RWC), 132 Lancaster Drive, Irvington. He will discuss his latest book, Tri-State Gang in Richmond: Murder and Robbery in the Great Depression.

For reservations, call RWC at 438-4000. Attendees are invited to a complimentary luncheon afterwards.

Museum fundraiser

The Mary Ball Washington Museum & Library will hold “An Evening at Westlawn” fundraising gala from 5 to 9 p.m. June 9.

The gala will feature a four-course dinner on the Westlawn grounds, a silent and live auction and tours of the house. Tickets are $100 per person and can be purchased at mkt.com/maryball, at the MBW Museum in Lancaster, or 462-7280.

Flower show

The Chesapeake Bay Garden club will present “Festivities of the Northern Neck” from 1 to 3 p.m. June 9, at Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern Transportation Building, Heathsville. There is no charge for this standard flower show.

Cool music

The Adrian Duke Project will open the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum 2017 summer concert series, Cool Music for Hot Summer Nights, from 6 to 8 p.m. June 11 at the RFM Pavilion, 504 Main Street, Reedville.

Single event tickets are $10. Tickets are available at the RFM, or at the venue.

Blood drive

The Red Cross will hold a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. June 19 at Kilmarnock Baptist Church, 65 East Church Street, Kilmarnock.

Music by the River

Upcoming Music by the River concerts at Belle Isle State Park will include Beer Money on June 10 and the U.S. Navy’s Country Current on June 17.

Concerts will begin at 6 p.m. in the picnic area at the park, 1632 Belle Isle Road, Lancaster. A $4 parking fee is payable at the front gate. Picnics are encouraged.

Art workshop

The Rappahannock Art League will offer Paint Like the Masters-White Heron with Renate Bumgarner from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 16 at the Studio Gallery, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock.

Snacks will be provided and participants may bring their favorite beverages. For course fees and registration, visit the gallery, or call 436-9309.

Community comedy

The Lancaster Players will present “The Queen of Bingo” June 15 through July 1 at The Lancaster Playhouse, 361 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone. The play will be staged at 8 p.m. June 15, 16, 17, 23, 24, 29, 30 and July 1; and at 3 p.m. June 25. The theater and cash bar will open an hour prior to the show.
