The Virginia High School League (VHSL) announced Friday that the spring sports season start date for all Virginia schools has been delayed until March 30.
The original spring sports first play date was scheduled for March 16.
As of now, outdoor track championships, tennis championships and the VHSL Spring Jubilee for soccer, softball and baseball championships are not affected by the delay and are still scheduled for their original dates.
On Saturday, March 14, Dr. James Lane, superintendent of public instruction for Virginia, provided clarification to superintendents across the state that during the two weeks that Virginia’s public schools are closed all school-sponsored activities, including athletics and practices, are not allowed.
