Wayland A. Doggett Jr.

WOODBRIDGE— Wayland Allen Doggett Jr. died August 19, 2017. “Bud” was born May 12, 1930 in Lancaster County to Wayland and Elizabeth Anderson Doggett. He grew up in Heathsville.

Doggett is predeceased by his parents; his sister, Betty Doggett Bunch; and his son, Wayland Allen Doggett III.

He is survived by daughters, Beth Atkinson and Suzanne Doggett; sons-in-law Dwight Atkinson and George Guessford; and grandchildren, Virginia Atkinson, Jeremy Atkinson and Julia Guessford.

He graduated from Randolph Macon Academy and Richmond Professional Institute, now Virginia Commonwealth University.

Bud was proud to be an American, which was reinforced by his service in the U.S. Army in Berlin, Germany, during the early 1950s.

Most of his adult life was lived in Charlottesville. In 2010, he moved to Northern Virginia to be near his family.

He was a longtime member of the Church of Our Savior, the Thomas Jefferson Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Thomas Jefferson Civitan Club, all of Charlottesville. After moving to Northern Virginia, he transferred his church membership to Pohick Episcopal Church in Lorton.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. September 16 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Heathsville.
