WHITE STONE—The White Stone Town Council plans to add a public utilities line item to its 2023-24 budget.
Town manager Patrick Frere, with input from the finance committee, presented a proposed $85,000 budget amendment at council’s October 5 meeting. Following the first reading, council unanimously, 6-0, set the budget amendment for a public hearing on November 2.
The revenue amendment results from funds generated by the town’s new public sewage system and includes an estimated $45,000 from phase 1 user fees or $6,500 in estimated average monthly user fees. Some $16,000 will come from connection fees. Another $11,295 comes from tipping fees and $10,205 from supplemental funds or 20% of estimated monthly prepared foods tax collected.
The $85,000 in expenses related to the sewage systems includes $23,275 for a treatment plant operator and training, $24,815 in loan payments, $9,450 in electric bills and $14,500 for labor, supplies and lab fees related to testing.
