Advisory system enhances middle school experience

Focused goal-setting in a trusting relationship is a powerful combination for students in any circumstance, but amid the challenges of safely keeping students in school during a pandemic, these essential relationships provide ballast for students at Chesapeake Academy.

Research shows that constructive teacher/student relationships have a very positive impact on students’ academic outcomes, reported head of school Julianne T. Duvall. Feeling valued and supported inspires increased engagement and effort that pay off in better and deeper learning. But perhaps most importantly this year, constructive relationships support students’ understanding of the challenges around them and build a sense of security and purpose.
