Coat drive for refugees exceeds expectations

 In October, with winter weather approaching, the mission group of White Stone Baptist Church launched a drive to benefit Afghan refugees.

An article in the Rappahannock Record and flyers to churches throughout the Northern Neck requested outerwear for those temporarily housed at Fort Lee and Fort Pickett. The response from the community was overwhelming, according to Cathie Ward, who headed up this effort.

Other volunteers helped with deliveries at the church office, sorted and transported two packed van loads of coats, jackets, gloves and hats to the chaplain’s staff at Fort Lee. Items were both beautiful and practical, many of them brand new with….
