Farm museum hosts hunting tournament

Fifteen hunters from the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck, other parts of Virginia and North Carolina came to the Northern Neck Farm Museum in Heathsville to cash in on the second annual Predator Plow Down, held December 6-8.0

From left, Nathan Houff, Hunter Houff and Ferrin Sipe took first place among five teams in the second annual Predator Plowdown. The team, Crushing Mark’s Dreams, took four coyote and 37 fox to claim the trophy.

“I’m a hunter myself and have been in other tournaments,” said organizer Kate Jones Downing. “We get calls weekly about predators on farms” and thought this would be a good opportunity to “decrease numbers in a safe way.”

Participating hunters were required to be licensed and have written permission from landowners and to follow all hunting laws. Hunting took place outside of the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck area, but a check-in and reception for hunters took place at the museum on….
