From red to grey, February exhibit winners announced

“Roses Delight,” an oil painting by Gail Merrill, placed first.

Two new exhibits, “Red is the Color of…” and “All Shades of Grey” opened to the public Wednesday February 5, at the RAL Art Center, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock. Over 115 pieces of art, including drawings, paintings, photographs, glasswork, stoneware, fibers art and sculptures will be on display through March 1.

The Jane Stouffer Exhibit Room show, “Red is the Color of…” includes 72 works of art incorporating the color of passion. The 43 artworks in the exhibit “All Shades of Grey” illustrate the impact art can make using only a grey scale. Show judge Sandy Manning, a retired educator, presented her selections at a First Friday reception February 7.

For first place in “Red is the Color of…” she selected “Roses Delight,” an oil painting by Gaye Merrill. The painting captures knock out roses in their peak….
