Capping its most successful season in school history, Northumberland High School placed two on Virginia High School League’s Class 1 all-state girls soccer first team and three on the second team.
Auburn beat the Lady Indians, 6-2, in the state championship and led the honor squad with six first-team selections. Eagles senior midfielder Katie Light was named the Class 1 player of the year and head coach Adam Ritchie was selected as coach of the year. Light had 49 goals and 16 assists this season and finished her high school career with 118 goals and 49 assists.
Freshman Eliza Leo, who led Northumberland in scoring and set a new school record in her first varsity season, was named one of five forwards on the all-state first team. Leo ended the season with 62 goals and 12 assists, 10 hat tricks and 10 game winning goals and was the Region 1A/2A player of the year.
NHS senior defender Harmyni Ball also was named to the all-state first team. Indians named to the second team include senior midfielder Layla Leo, senior defender Keyaira Ball and sophomore forward Ryland Pearson.
