Lancaster High celebrated a first on February 24 when both its boys and girls indoor track and field teams won the Region 1A championships.

After several years of finishing as the runner-up behind Bruton in a Region 1A/2A combined meet, the LHS boys brought home the first place trophy. The regional meet was split into 1A and 2A events this year.
“Single A finally had enough teams to split it up. Actually I think they had enough last year, but they decided to split it up this year and it paid off for us,” said LHS coach Draper Washington.
Lancaster will take 13 boys and 11 girls to compete in the Class 1 indoor track and field championships March 5-6 at Liberty University in Lynchburg.
The LHS boys team scored 183 points to beat out eight other teams at last week’s regional meet at Boo Williams in Hampton. Mathews was the runner-up with 152 points.
Lancaster scored 127 points, 34 points better than runner-up Rappahannock, to win the girls championship….
