Marine trades students overhaul Wee Tip-Sea for charter season

WARSAW—Students of the Northern Neck Technical Center maritime studies classes recently took the lessons and skills they’ve been learning all year and applied them to a career-applicable project—the restoration of a 20-foot Sportscraft.

Under the leadership of class instructor Mike Cullen, 11 students spent about four weeks preparing the Wee Tip-Sea and completed the project in early March in time for a season full of charters on the area waters.

“The kids love it. They love applying what they’ve learned in the classroom to a real boat and seeing it work,” Cullen said.

His class was tasked with servicing the motor, electrical work, general detailing and maintenance—ultimately bringing the boat up to snuff to take….
