WEEMS—Martha Ellen Bell Carter, born to the late Mollie Ellen Ball Bell and William Moses Bell on November 19, 1938, died February 8, 2025.
She worked in the culinary industry at Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club, Rappahannock General Hospital, and Riverside Convalescent Center, where she retired as head of the kitchen staff.
She was a member of Sharon Baptist Church, where she was active in bake sales, The Sensational Nightingales, The Mass Choir, Senior Out Reach and Vacation Bible School. She was a deaconess, trustee, treasurer, financial secretary, chairman of the Kitchen Ministry and First Lady for over 20 years as the wife of the late Rev. Clarence Purcell “Paul” Carter.
She is survived by her daughter, Lindora Yerby; granddaughter, Tabitha Lynne McQuerry; great-grandchildren, Honesti, Kyler and CJ.
A funeral for Martha Ellen was held February 22, at Sharon Baptist Church with Rev. Dale S. Bunns, pastor, officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
