While acknowledging there is “still a lot of work to do” on the 2026 fiscal year budget, Northumberland county administrator Lutrell Tadlock on Wednesday, May 14, laid out a grim financial picture facing the county. Despite a proposed $0.08 real estate tax rate increase netting an additional $2 million in revenue, expenditures are still greater, leading to a further decline in the county’s undesignated fund balance.
“Budget requests are being evaluated,” Tadlock said. “We’re seeing where costs savings can be had.”
Currently, revenue is projected to be $44.2 million, while expenditures are currently $1.9 million higher at $46.1 million. Tadlock said they estimate starting the fiscal year with $3 million in the undesignated fund balance, but could end the year at ….
