HEATHSVILLE—According to Jack Reagan, partner and managing director with UHY financial consultants, Northumberland schools will need an additional $400,000 to close out the 2025 fiscal year, a considerable improvement from last month’s projection of $1.3 million.
This update and supplemental appropriation request was presented to the Northumberland board of supervisors on Thursday, July 10. However, the board took no action, preferring to wait until supervisor Chip Williams was able to attend. A possible special called meeting could take place this week if schedules allow or the matter would be taken up at the previously scheduled July 23 meeting.
After reviewing expected July expenditures to be applied to the previous fiscal year, reclassifying federal funds, Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security (CARES) funds and special appropriation funds, as well as backing out transactions that should have been applied to the 2024 fiscal year, he is “confident” the deficit is around $400,000—$300,000 for instruction and $100,000 for transportation, said Reagan. “It’s still not good, but….
