LANCASTER—In response to supervisor concerns about ground-mounted residential solar panels and potential conflicts with adjoining property owners, the Lancaster County Planning Commission on Thursday, May 15, reviewed the solar ordinance to see if there is room for improvement.
County planner Andrea Pruett shared a review of solar ordinances from surrounding counties. Vice chairman Tara Booth said seeing the other counties’ maximum surface area and how Lancaster compares—10,000 square feet versus less than 2,500 or 1,500 in other counties—is “the biggest thing that jumped out at me. I would like to see that reduced.”
The commission voted to accept the staff recommendation regarding size and defining it as a maximum capacity of 25kw and 2,500 square feet. A provision for a special exception would….
