It’s an impressive accomplishment to surpass 1,000 career points in high school basketball. It’s even more impressive when a player reaches that milestone as a junior. Tyreek Lundy of Northumberland High School did just that on Friday, February 14.
Lundy tallied 23 points, seven rebounds and six assists as the Indians beat the Essex Trojans, 65-27, marking Northumberland’s sixth straight win.
Additionally, Lundy has scored at least 19 points in his last 15 games and helped lead NHS to a 13-3 overall record as the top seed in Region A. The Essex game was the final regular season game for the Indians.
Lundy reached the 1,000-point accomplishment after scoring 277 points as a freshman and 346 as a sophomore. He has scored 389 so far this season as a junior.
Lundy has 103 rebounds, 95 assists, 86 steals and four blocks this season.
The Indians also ended the year in first place in the Northern Neck District and, weather permitting, will host second-place Lancaster in the district championship game Thursday, February 20.
