Music talk

Northern Neck Orchestra music director Michael Repper will present, discuss and perform the works of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor at 1:30 p.m. Friday, October 3, at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury, 132 Lancaster Drive, Irvington.

The presentation is open to the public at no charge. Signed copies of his related recording will be available for $10.

Shoreline planting

The Northern Neck Master Gardeners Shoreline Evaluation Program will present “Planting for Success: Best Choices for Shoreline Protection” from 2-3:30 p.m. Friday, October 3, at the Bayne Center, Historic Christ Church, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems.

The program is free, but advance registration is required. To register, call the Virginia Cooperative Extension office in Lancaster, 462-5780.

Boots and barbecue

Boots and Barbecue, to benefit the Northern Neck Land Conservancy, will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, October 4, at Wheatland on the Rappahannock River in Essex County. Tickets are $50. Purchase tickets at nnconserve.org, or call 250-2334.

The  event will include fried oysters, barbecue, cool beverages, music and presentations by the Patawomeck Tribe, the Northern Neck Beekeepers and the Steamboat Era Museum.

Weems event

The Village of Weems Community League will host “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” from 8-11 a.m. Saturday,  October 4.

At 1 p.m., the annual Community Long Lunch will begin at 65 Spencer Lane, Carter’s Cove. Tickets are $25 per person, cash or check, and are available at Pearl Boutique, 35 South Main Street, Kilmarnock. Children eat free.
