NEWPORT NEWS—Yvonne Bashti Jessup Holmes of Newport News, formerly of Mollusk, died January 30, 2018.
She was born June 7, 1943, to the late Herman “Doc” Jessup and Estelle Eva Jessup.
She was a former member of Queen Esther Baptist Church, Lancaster, and a graduate of Brookvale High School, where she was salutatorian of the Class of 1962. She was a social worker for some 25 years.
She is survived by her two daughters, Cassandra Williams and Carla Holmes Golden; goddaughter, Marie Hayes; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Capt. John “Doc” Herman Jessup and sister-in-law, Evangelist Mary Jessup; ex-husband, John Holmes III of White Stone; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was funeralized February 7 at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Newport News. Interment followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Newport News. Pastor Gregory Howard of East End Baptist Church participated in the funeral service.
