5,000 years of history at Belle Isle State Park

On June 15, Belle Isle State Park, 1632 Belle Isle Road, Lancaster, offered a full day of education and exploration.

Participants of all ages, mostly in family units and from beyond the Northern Neck, came for the park’s scenic beauty, its boating and camping facilities, and a chance at hands-on history and science.

The event began at 11 a.m. with a “Time Traveler” tour of the park. Participants started at the Visitor’s Center and traveled by hay wagon to learn the history of the park’s early residents, which chief ranger Katherine Shepard narrated along the way…
