With more female members in the Rappahannock Pistol and Rifle Club (RPRC) than ever before, it’s evident that shooting is not just a man’s sport anymore.
Historically, shooting has been viewed as a male-dominated activity but recent shifts have more women entering recreational clubs and competitive shooting leagues. Case in point, RPRC now has 102 female members, or 17% of its membership. The sport has become so popular the club is at its cap with 600 members and has 47 people on a waiting list.
“Historically, it’s been an all-man thing and over the last three years, we have seen an increase in women that are getting involved in shooting, shotgun and pistol, and are more active,” said vice president Paul Thompson. “And to me, now the club is more rounded.”
