HEATHSVILLE—Northumberland County Public Schools plans to implement strategies to see growth and improvement in state Standards of Learning (SOL) scores, following below-average student performance for the 2025-26 school year.
During a Monday, September 14, school board meeting, assistant superintendent Javornda Ashton presented a number of metrics and figures related to last year’s standardized test scores.
According to Ashton, as a whole, the district performed below the state average. The district earned a 56% score in history compared to the state average 70%. The district also underperformed in science, earning a 67% compared to the state average 71%. Narrowing the margins, the district earned a score of 70% in mathematics compared to the state average of 73%. Northumberland was on par with the state average for reading, both sitting at 74%.
Ashton added they like to see a 75% score in the reading category and at least a 70% for all other categories….
