Pianist Fei-Fei Dong will join the Northern Neck Orchestra on Saturday, October 10, at the Lancaster High School Auditorium & Performing Arts Center, 100 Visionary Way, Irvington.
She will perform Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 on the new Steinway grand piano at the opening concert for the 2025-26 season, reported Cary Schneider. The program also will include Dmitiri Shostakovich’s Festive Overture and Ruth Gipps’s Symphony No. 2.
The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. A pre-concert talk hosted by music director Michael Repper will begin at 6:45 p.m. Admission is by season subscription, $160, or $40 for the concert. Tickets may be purchased at the door or www.northernneckorchestra.org. Students are admitted free with an online reservation.
Dong will appear in place of South African pianist Nina Schumann. Due to delays in the visa process, Schumann is unable to perform at this concert. The performance will be the first on the orchestra’s new Steinway Model D concert grand piano, the longtime favorite of the world’s greatest pianists.
This flagship Steinway model has a new technology called Spirio. It is a high-resolution player piano system that offers access to a vast library of music virtually indistinguishable from live performance and provides artists with the capabilities to record, edit, playback, search and save their performances. The Northern Neck Orchestra is the first orchestra in the world to own this unique piano.
