HEATHSVILLE— Northumberland County recently issued an alert warning residents that a fraudulent email and invoice has been circulating.
According to an announcement on the county page, an email claiming to be from the Northumberland County Planning and Zoning Department is seeking payment for “building and zoning application review and approval fees.” The email includes an invoice displaying the county seal and requests payment via a wire transfer.
The county urges anyone receiving an unexpected invoice or payment request to verify the invoice directly with the appropriate county department, not to reply or provide personal or banking information. The county also urges everyone to use contact information supplied on the county website rather than information provided in an email.
