Typhoon Fleet racing season concludes with awards party

The Typhoon Fleet ended its 2017 racing season October 4 by completing the Fall Series with three races on the Rappahannock River. An awards party followed October 11 at Rappahannock River Yacht Club (RRYC) in Irvington.

After the 40 attendees enjoyed food and fellowship, a review of the season was presented by Tom Watkins and Ned Crockett.

Watkins expressed appreciation for the support of the RRYC, without whom the Typhoon Fleet would not exist, reported Crockett. Watkins also noted the Typhoon Fleet just completed its 15th anniversary of organized racing.

He also recognized special guest, Tuva Power, whose late husband, Doug, was a past commodore and was very supportive of the Typhoon Fleet. The RRYC mark boat, Doug Power, was named in his honor.

Crockett then gave a brief summary of 2017 racing statistics noting that a total of 29 races were completed with 15 Typhoons competing. Seven Typhoons earned at least one first-place finish, which is indicative of the racing abilities within the group, he said.
