Lancaster supervisors whittle away at proposed school, county budgets

LANCASTER—Dollar figures and failed motions occupied the Lancaster supervisors during two recent work sessions on a school budget for next year. On Monday, the board finally approved a measure that is $191,890 less than the school board’s request but $347,992 more than the current school budget.

After four failed motions, supervisors approved a $16,667,149 budget. The school board had sought $16,859,039.

Knowing the schools needed something approved with no more delay, District 5 supervisor Robert Westbrook compromised and moved to approve the $16.6 million amount in a lump sum and the motion passed 3-2 with support from District 2 supervisor Ernest Palin, District 4 supervisor Bill Lee and Westbrook. District 1 supervisor Jack Larson and District 3 supervisor Jason Bellows voted against the motion.
