Lancaster High School to organize a swim team

Lancaster High School will now have a swim team during the winter season.

At the November 13 school board meeting, chairman Audrey Thomasson moved to establish the proposed swim team and board member Joan Gravatt seconded the motion. It passed unanimously, 5-0, with support from board members Kenya Moody, Carolyn Young, Katherine Keith, Gravatt and Thomasson.

The team will compete in the Virginia High School League as a Class 1 swim team, said athletic director Dave Zeiler.

“It’s going to be a small team, 12 to 15 students. We also have some eighth graders that will be involved,” said Zeiler. “Our number of meets are limited right now.”

Although eighth graders are participating in conditioning, they will not be able to swim in meets, he said.
