Sock burning activity marks the beginning of bay boating season

On March 16, Indian Creek Yacht Club members enjoyed a crisp afternoon, blazing conflagration and hot toddies as they incinerated their socks and winter blahs.

Since the early 1970s a tradition has spread through the Chesapeake Bay Region, reported rear commodore Bob Wayland. Boaters burn their socks as a way of marking the Spring Equinox, the end of winter and the coming boating season.
