Reedville to celebrate independence July 6-7

by Jackie Nunnery

There’s more than just fireworks planned in Reedville to celebrate the nation’s independence.

Reedville Fishermen’s Museum director Lee Langston-Harrison said the festivities will start July 6 with the annual Firecracker 5K Run/Walk. Registration will open at 6:45 a.m. and the race will begin at 8 a.m.

From 10 a.m. to noon, there will be events especially for kids, with a pie eating contest, a fire truck hose-down, face painting and sack races. There will be food, and with hot dogs, ice cream, and a bake sale, there is plenty for attendees to choose from, according to Langston-Harrison.

In addition to the museum’s regular exhibits, revelers can head over to the museum’s dock on Cockrell Creek to view their historical fleet…
