Hooper hearing postponed

John Randolph “Rand” Hooper, who is charged with involuntary manslaughter and failing to render aid in the 2017 death of Graham McCormick, will not appear before a judge in Lancaster County Circuit Court on July 12, as originally scheduled.

According to Clerk of Circuit Court Diane Mumford, motions regarding the request for disqualification of Lancaster County Commonwealth’s Attorney Jan Smith must be heard before a new trial date for Hooper can be set.

Circuit Court Judge Michael McKenney recused himself from hearing Hooper’s plea agreement in June and Judge Herbert Hewitt is expected to set a date to hear the case this week.

However, McCormick’s family filed a motion asking to remove Smith from prosecuting the case. Hooper’s attorneys countered with a motion requesting Smith remain on the case.
