LANCASTER—Elizabeth Diggs Coleman of Lancaster died November 9, 2016.
She was born September 1, 1929, to the late John Diggs and Lena Ball.
Mrs. Coleman grew up in Kilmarnock and attended A.T. Wright High School. She was a member of New St. John Baptist Church, where she participated in the gospel chorus for over 50 years, served as a deaconess, an usher and a Sunday school teacher.
She worked in the nursing field at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury and Mizpah Nursing facility. She also worked in the seafood industry.
She is survived by her children, Larry Coleman Sr. of Westmoreland, Ralph Coleman Sr. of Callao, Irvin Coleman of Newport News, Dennis Coleman Sr. of Wicomico Church, Tim Coleman of Richmond, Denise Coleman of White Stone and Iris Diggs of Kilmarnock; grandchildren, Sandra, Ralph Jr., Chawanda, Larry Jr., Shelley, La’Nay, Dennis Jr., Shantae, Kendrick, Shanell, Kenyada, Nikita and Dedrick; and a host of great-great-grandchildren.
She also was predeceased by her husband James Coleman.
A funeral was held November 16 at New St. John Baptist Church, Kilmarnock. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
