Doris N. G. H. Carter

KILMARNOCK—Doris Nadine Godette Hill “Momma D” Carter of Kilmarnock died Sunday, December 15.

She was born December 30, 1940, in Beaufort, N.C. She was a member of St. Stephens Congregational Church of Christ. She attended Queen Street High School. She received her GED in 1975.

She married Robert “Junebug” Hill Jr. on May 11, 1958 and moved to Kilmarnock. She was a member New St. John Baptist Church, later Calvary Baptist Church. She was a member of The Northern Neck Baptist Convention Choir.

She worked in local supermarkets. She retired from Lancaster County Public Schools as a bus driver.

Doris was preceded in death her parents, Matthew and Cornelia Godette; husbands, Robert Hilt Jr. and Cephus Carter; siblings, Robert Godette, Sylvia Godette Barbee and Edmon Godette Sr.; and her grandson, Jeremy Lee Cain.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Anthony Godette, Agnes Webster, Julia Cain, Robert Hill III, Edmon Hill, Cornelia Morton, Wayne Carter, Bruce Carter, Chris Carter and Debbie Carter; her grandchildren, Kevin Charlton, Aaron Cain, Shandee Felton, Krystle Coldiron, Edmon Hill Jr, Jason Hendricks, Adrienne McCoy, Ashton Parker-Morton, Samantha Cain, Jade Hill, Aleah Hill, Kerston Morton, Erin Hill, Brandon Hill and Aaron Morton Jr.; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Matthew “Sonny” Godette Sr., Bessie Godette and Melton Godette; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones.

A funeral was held Saturday, December 21, at Calvary Baptist Church. Interment followed at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery, White Stone.
