Master Naturalists lead the way in new program hosted by Belle Isle State Park

LANCASTER—Belle Isle State Park is rolling out a new, monthly, guided tour in 2020 to give visitors an intimate view of the parks’ flora and fauna.

The series, “Walk on the Wild Side,” will be led by local naturalists, many who are certified Virginia Master Naturalists. Walks will be conducted from 9-11 a.m. on second Thursdays at Belle Isle State Park, 1632 Belle Isle Road, Lancaster.

The first walk, scheduled for Thursday, February 13, will be a great opportunity to learn to identify naked trees, look for breeding eagles and find signs of frogs and salamanders, according to park manager Katie Shepard.
