KILMARNOCK—The town council on Monday voted unanimously, 6-0, to close the Kilmarnock Town Hall doors to the public due to concerns related to the COVID-19 virus.
Council members Rebecca Nunn, Alice Cooper, Emerson Gravatt, Curtis Smith, Les Spivey and Michael Sutherland all voted in favor of a motion to lock the Town Hall.
Although members of the community won’t be able to interact with town staff face-to-face, town employees will still continue to provide services to the town from inside a locked Town Hall building. Government services in Kilmarnock including utilities, park maintenance and law enforcement have been operating on only essential functions since last Friday in order to minimize staff exposure to the virus.
“Government servants are still there working on behalf of the public, just not in public face-to-face environments,” said town manager Susan Cockrell.
