LANCASTER—Citing rising COVID-19 cases in the Virginia Health Department’s (VDH) Eastern Region, Lancaster schools superintendent Dan Russell last week announced schools will move to a “full distance learning model for the first nine weeks” beginning August 24.
Russell had previously announced plans at the school board meeting July 7 for a weekly model alternating in-person and remote learning, but told parents in a July 29 email that “new guidance provided to school superintendents from the VDH” suggested “more restrictions than the current plan allows.”
According to the July 30 data published on the VDH website, Lancaster County has had more COVID-19 cases in the one month since the Phase 3 opening on July 1 compared to the previous three months combined. The first case was reported…
