Deborah Pratt of Jamaica won the Virginia State Oyster Shucking Championship Saturday, October 31, at the Middlesex County Volunteer Fire Department in Urbanna.
The event represented one of the few in-person activities of the 63rd annual Urbanna Oyster Festival, which included several virtual or online opportunities.
Pratt prevailed against men’s division winner Robert Minor of Gwynns Island. She claimed the title by shucking 24 oysters with a time of 3:34 to Minor’s 4:04.
