Northumberland supervisors call special meeting to address additional CARES Act spending

HEATHSVILLE—The Northumberland board of supervisors on Wednesday, December 16, approved two CARES Act funding requests and took no action on a third during a special called meeting. To qualify, CARES Act expenditures have to take place before December 31.

The board unanimously, 5-0, approved an additional $25,000 to Fairfields Volunteer Fire Department to make up for the loss in donations and an upcoming fundraiser. The board previously approved $22,400 at the last meeting to replace 2020 fundraising events that had to be canceled due to COVID-19.

According to the written request, Fairfields had received $21,526 in donations from their fund drive letters during 2019 and only $10,360 this year.
