Virtual history lecture January 21 to examine Dr. Peirce, birth records

The Lancaster Virginia Historical Society’s next “Zooming In On Lancaster County History” virtual program will be  “Dr. Peirce’s Babies and Home Birth Records.”

The program will be presented at 3 p.m. January 21, by Margaret Forrester, author of Home Birth Records of Dr. Chichester Tapscott Peirce: 1919-1954, and R. Page Henley Jr., a grandson and biographer of Dr. Peirce.

“Dr. C.T. Peirce of Nuttsville is remembered as a much-beloved family practitioner and typical country doctor,” said LVHS executive director Karen Hart.

“Mr. Henley will give an overview of Peirce’s life and career in rural medicine and Mrs. Forrester will present a slide talk about the project she undertook to research, transcribe, and compile information from 35 pocket-sized books of ‘Physician’s Bedside Birth Records’ kept by Peirce,” said Hart.
