Douglas A. Rogers

Douglas A. Rogers

WICOMICO CHURCH—Douglas Alan Rogers, a resident of Wicomico Church, passed away at home from natural causes on January 3, 2021.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy; four adult children; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and three nephews.

Doug was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on May 28, 1930, the son of local businessman Harry Rogers and Mildred Jensen. He had one brother, William; and one sister, Marilyn; both of whom predeceased him.

Doug graduated from Omaha’s Benson High School, after which he attended Iowa State University, graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering in the class of 1953. He participated in the Army ROTC during college, and after graduation, served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army, where he worked as an engineer in South Dakota, France and other locations.

He was a lover of sports, particularly sailing, tennis, golf, hiking, camping and hunting. His family has fond memories of numerous camping trips, sailing outings and many other family activities together when they were young. A true engineer, Doug could construct or fix almost anything and always enjoyed having a project to work on.

Doug served as executive vice president of operations at Flexi-Van Corporation, a pioneer in the container transportation industry. Doug and his wife moved to the Northern Neck over 30 years ago, and have been involved with home renovation and sheep farming. They have very much enjoyed having their many close friends in the local community.

A memorial service for Doug will be arranged at an appropriate later date, after it becomes safe to travel again.
