Winter Storm Tabitha strikes Northern Neck

KILMARNOCK—Trees toppled and power lines snapped, leaving dozens of roads blocked and thousands without electricity in the Northern Neck last weekend after Winter Storm Tabitha moved across the Commonwealth.

Two massive systems swept across the country during a 72-hour period, dumping snow, freezing rain and ice on already saturated ground, which resulted in a mess for first responders.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office received 193 emergency calls in a 48-hour period and 117 calls on Saturday alone.

“That’ll tell you what the ice storm did. It was hectic around here,” said Lancaster County Sheriff Patrick McCranie.
