Rappahannock beats Lancaster, 41-6, in gridiron season opener

The field at Lancaster High School was alive last Saturday morning with the sweet sounds of football—grunts and moans in the trenches, the thud of pads hitting pads and the shrill sound of a referee’s whistle

For once, it really wasn’t about which team won or lost as much as it was about finally getting to play the game. It’s been exactly a year without sports because of the pandemic.

Rappahannock High School held a 21-0 lead at the half and went on to beat host Lancaster, 41-6, in the season opener for both teams. The Red Devils had only a week of practice before hitting the playing field; Rappahannock about two weeks. The Raiders and Devils, along with Northumberland, are the only….
