Supervisors appropriate $19.2 million for schools, $44.2 million county budget set for public hearing

LANCASTER—The Lancaster board of supervisors on Thursday, April 14, held a final work session on the 2023 fiscal year budget prior to adopting the $19.2 million school budget and appropriating it in lump sum, 5-0.

Supervisors Craig Giese, William Smith, Ernest Palin, Jason Bellows and Bill Lee all voted in favor.

The board will hold public hearings on a proposed $44.2 million county budget and tax rates at the Thursday, April 28 board meeting, with adoption to follow on May 26.

School budget

The school budget includes a 6.57% raise for all staff, down from the original proposal of 10%. That rate was chosen in order to put the starting teaching salary at $45,000.
