LVHS to host speaker on menhaden boats during World War I

The annual meeting of the Lancaster Virginia Historical Society (LVHS) on Tuesday, October 25, will feature a talk by Richard W. Covington, the author of Northern Neck Fishing Steamers Go to War: Turning Fishboats into Warships.

The meeting will be held from 4-6 p.m. at the Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock. Admission is free and open to the public. Attendees will have the option to purchase $5 tickets for the LVHS Fall Raffle with a prize of up to $1,000.

“The program will begin with our membership business meeting, board elections and volunteer awards, followed by Mr. Covington’s presentation, which will last about 30 minutes, and end with a book signing,” said executive director Karen Hart.
