TANGIER ISLAND—Children and adults alike enjoyed a performance here by popular juggler and magician Jonathan Austin of Richmond on Wednesday, November 16. The performance was sponsored by Kilmarnock Museum.
In true magician fashion, Austin had to bend and mold his performance to accommodate some unusual circumstances.
Upon arrival on Tangier Island after a 15-minute plane ride with pilot Davy Nichols of Coastal Sky Taxi from Hummel Field, Austin was informed the entire island’s water had been shut off due to a break in a line. All of the island and the school had been shut down.
Austin, who was scheduled to perform at the school, was determined to perform.
“Flexibility is the name of the game,” he said.
After meeting with Inez Pruett at the island clinic, several alternative sites were discussed. Following further consideration and a couple of phone calls, Pruett told Austin the Sunday school building could be used….
