Reeves hands off gavel in White Stone

It was a seamless, albeit emotional, transition of power in White Stone last Thursday when outgoing Mayor Randy S. Reeves Sr. passed his gavel to incoming Mayor William B. Hubbard. The two have served side-by-side as mayor and deputy mayor for eight years, and say they share the same visions and forward-thinking mindset for the town.

“It’ll be an easy changing of the guard here,” said Reeves from the guest’s seat in the mayor’s chambers in the town office. Hubbard was sitting behind the desk in the mayor’s seat although he hadn’t officially been sworn in. The two were sharing stories of the last eight years prior to the January 5 council meeting, the final one Reeves would call to order, bringing a close to over four decades of service to the town.

Reeves cleared his throat and paused numerous times during his farewell “thank you” speech before a chamber packed with his and Hubbard’s family and friends. It was obvious even to those who don’t know him, he loves the town of White Stone.

Reeves and his wife, Linda, moved outside of corporate limits in the fall….
